Cavendish is the most in-demand campground in Atlantic Canada — sites for July and August are typically gone within hours of the reservation window opening on Parks Canada's website (usually in January). If you're planning a summer trip, book the day reservations open. Shoulder season (June, September) is much easier to book with only a few weeks notice.
Summer temperatures are comfortable (18–25°C days), but PEI's north shore is exposed to Gulf of St. Lawrence weather systems. Afternoon thunderstorms are possible in July and August. Fog rolls in overnight in June and September. Check the OpenAir wind and rain window above before you set up a tarp — the 3-hour window is especially useful for tent campers.
Yes — Cavendish Campground has electrical hookup sites and full-service sites (water and electricity) in addition to unserviced tent sites. Full hookup sites are the first to sell out. Dump stations are available on site. Check Parks Canada's reservation system for current site types and availability.
The campground has heated washroom and shower buildings, laundry facilities, a camp store, and interpretive programs run by Parks Canada. The beach is a 5–10 minute walk from most sites. Bike rentals are available nearby and the Confederation Trail is easily accessible for day rides.
September is arguably the best month to camp at Cavendish. The crowds thin out dramatically after Labour Day, the water is still warm from the summer (often 18–20°C), the light is golden, and you can actually hear the Gulf instead of your neighbours. Weather is cooler but very pleasant for hiking and cycling.
